MATH WORD PROBLEm?

Question: The question says...Stack's football team lost 10 yards on one play and gained twelve yards on the next play and lost six yards on the following play. How many yards did they lose or gain? Thanks in advance... please provide a mild explanation if possible.

Answer: They lost four yards. Basically first play= -10 Second play= +12 So 1st+2nd= +2 3rd play= -6 Thus 2-6= -4 Because you cannot move a negitive number of yards you move four yards. Your answer came out negitive however so that means you lost yards. The Absolute value of -4 is 4 and you lose yards. Thus you lost 4 yards.
